Choose Your Domain Name: The First Step

The first step in making a website is to choose your domain name.

A domain name is what you are going to call your website.

www.make-a-web-site.com is my domain name. To get a domain you have to register that name each year for a fee.

Getting a domain doesn’t mean you get a website, you also need web hosting and a website builder.

In step two I will show you how to get a free domain name as well as what web hosting you can use.

If you already have a domain name you can also use that to make your website.

Domain Tips

Your domain is important. I recommend either be a cool catchy name or a description of what your website is about.

For example, www.facebook.com is cool and catchy and no correlation with sharing pictures, liking stuff and updating your status. On the other hand www.creditcards.com explains exactly what the website is about.

Some tips for choosing a domain name:

• -Make it simple
• -Register a .com domain name were possible.
• -Keep it short. (e.g. rockingchairdesign.com instead of bobsbesttipstomakearockingchair.com )
• -Register is for more than 2 years
